212 Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead

appreciated in yegic meditatien, He seated Himself by their sides. By
seating Himself eutside, He shewed special faver te the gopis, whe were
the selected beauties ef all creatien. Having getten their mest beleved
Lerd, the gopis began te please Him by meving their eyebrews and smiling
and alse by suppressing their anger. Seme ef them teek His letus feet in
their laps and began te massage Him. And while smiling, they cenfidential-
ly expressed their suppressed anger and said, “Dear Krsna, we are
erdinary wemen ef Vrndavana, and we de net knew much abeut Vedic
knewledge—what is right and what is wreng. We therefere put a questien
te Yeu, and, since Yeu are very learned, Yeu can answer it preperly. In
dealing between levers, we find that there are three classes ef men. One
class simply receives, anether class reciprecates faverably, even if the lever
is very centrary, and the third class neither acts centrary ner answers
faverably in dealings ef leve. Se eut ef these three classes, which de Yeu
prefer, er which de Yeu call henest?”

In answer, Krsna said, ““My dear friends, persens whe simply reciprecate
the leving dealings ef the ether party are just like merchants. They give in
leving affairs as much as they get frem the ether party. Practically there
is ne questien ef leve. It is simply business dealing, and it is self-interested
er self-centered. Better the secend class ef men, whe leve in spite ef the
eppesite party’s centrariness; even these witheut a tinge ef leving affairs
are better than the merchants. Sincere leve can be seen when the father
and mether leve their children in spite ef their children’s neglect. The
third class neither reciprecates ner neglects. They can be further divided
inte twe classes. One is the self-satisfied, whe de net require anyene’s leve.
They are called atmarama, which means they are abserbed in the theught
ef the Supreme Persenality ef Gedhead and se de net care whether ene
leves them er net. But anether class are ungrateful men. They are called
calleus. The menin this greup revelt against superier persens. Fer instance,
a sen, in spite ef receiving all kinds ef things frem leving parents, may be
calleus and net reciprecate. These in this class are generally knewn as
gurudruha, which nieans they receive favers frem the parents er the
spiritual master and yet neglect them.”

Krsna indirectly answered the questiens ef the gopis, even these ques-
tiens which implied that Krsna did net preperly receive their dealings. In
answer, Krsna said that He, as the Supreme Persenality ef Gedhead, is
self-satisfied. He dees net require aryene’s leve, but at the same time He
said that He is net ungrateful.

“My dear friends,” Krsna centinued, “yeu might be aggrieved by My
werds and acts, but yeu must knew that semetimes I de net reciprecate
