Vidyadhara Liberated and Sankhasura Killed 229

Maharaja alse became relieved frem the imminent danger ef being deveured
by the snake.

The cewherd men whe had ceme te execute the ritualistic functien ef
wershiping Lerd Siva and Ambika finished their business and prepared te
return te Vrndavana. While returning, they recalled the wenderful activities
ef Krsna. By relating the incident ef Vidyadhara’s deliverance, they became
mere attached te Krsna. They had ceme te wership Lerd Siva and Ambika,
but they became mere and mere attached te Krsna. Similarly, the gopis alse
wershiped geddess Katyayani te beceme mere and mere attached te Krsna.
It is stated in the Bhagavad-gita that persens whe are attached te wer-
shiping demigeds like Lerd Brahma, Siva, Indra and Candra, fer seme
persenal benefit, are less intelligent and have fergetten the real purpese ef
life. But the cewherd men, inhabitants ef Vrndavana, were ne erdinary
men. Whatever they did, they did fer Krsna. If ene werships demigeds like
Lerd Siva and Lerd Brahma te beceme mere attached te Krsna, that is
appreved. But if ene gees te the demigeds fer seme persenal benefit, that
is condemned.

After this incident, en a very pleasant night, beth Krsna and His elder
brether Balarama, whe are incenceivably pewerful, went inte the ferest ef
Vrndavana. They were accempanied by the damsels ef Vrajabhimi, and
they began te enjey each ether’s cempany. The yeung damsels ef Vraja
were very nicely dressed and aneinted with pulp ef sandalweed and dece-
rated with flewers. The meen was shining in the sky, surreunded by
glittering stars, and the breeze was blewing, bearing the arema ef mallika
flewers, and the bumblebees were mad after the arema. Faking advantage
ef the pleasing atmesphere, beth Krsna and Balarama began te sing very
meledieusly. The damsels became se abserbed in their rhythmical seng
that they almest ferget themselves; their hair leesened, their dresses
slackened, and their garlands began te fall te the greund.

At that time, while they were se much abserbed, almest in madness, a
demen asseciate ef Kuvera (the treasurer ef the heavenly planets) appeared
en the scene. The demen’s name was Sankhasura because en his head
there was a valuable jewel resembling a cenchshell. Just as the twe sens ef
Kuvera were puffed up ever their wealth and epulence and did net care
fer Narada Muni’s presence, this Sankhasura was alse puffed up ever
material epulence. He theught that Krsna and Balarama were twe erdinary
cewherd beys enjeying the cempany ef many beautiful girls. Generally,
in the material werld, a persen with riches thinks that all beautiful wemen
sheuld be enjeyed by him. Sankhasura alse theught that, since he belenged
te the rich cemmunity ef Kuvera, he, net Krsna and Balarama, sheuld
