PURPORT
Stila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura remarks that in the Kirma Purana there
are only two khandas, namely the Purva-khanda and Uttara-khanda. Sometimes it
is said that the Kdrma Purana contains six thousand verses, but originally the Kur-
ma Purdna contains seventeen thousand verses. According to Srimad-Bhagavatam,
there are seventeen thousand verses in the Kdrma Purana, which is one of the
eighteen Mahd-purdnas. The Kdrma Purana is considered the fifteenth of these
Mahd-purdanas.
